ALES 100 Old Country Fair

A good old fashioned Country Fair will take over the Edmonton Research Station to celebrate our first 100 years! Interactive displays will focus on “our accomplished past… our limitless future.” There will be plenty of family-friendly activities, contests, races, games and more! Enjoy a mini-farmers market and, of course, the ALES Museum will be open to one and all. The ALES Alumni Tent, a great meeting place for classes, will be available both days. Tours of the research facilities on the Edmonton Research Station will be available.

Stitched Narratives

Though they speak differently than words on a page, seamstresses’ and embroiders’ creations are rich in cultural, historical, and social meaning. “Stitched Narratives” explores these modes of expression, unraveling hand sewing’s complex stories. From 18th century textiles to 20th century garments, the exhibition tells woven tales and showcases the hands’ many talents.

Blake Reid Concert

Moving On (part of Ualberta Music's Mainstage Concert Season)

Montréal Symphony Concertmaster Andrew Wan and U of A faculty member Jacques Després reunite for a diverse program of sonatas. Both are winners of the prestigious Montréal Symphony Competition, but the duo remains divided when it comes to hockey. Edmonton-born Wan is an Oilers fan, while Després says “Go Habs Go!”

A Time to Play!
Featuring two of Canada’s most prominent musicians, violinist Andrew Wan (concertmaster, Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal) and pianist Jacques Després (professor, University of Alberta) performing works by Mozart, Grieg, Debussy and Strauss.

The event will begin with a reception and performances by talented Augustana alumni and current students, followed by U of A alumnus and Augustana music professor Dr. Milton Schlosser’s pre-concert discussion of the recital’s music and performers in light of Augustana Campus’ 2015-16 theme “A Time to Play.”

Our very own Dr. Michael R. Doschak, Associate Professor, will be our guest speaker. “Bone Trek – The ‘Next Generation’ of Drugs for Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis and Bone Cancer.” Skeletal health is of key importance for a productive workforce and for the health of our aging community in general. Inadequate dietary calcium and vitamin D intake in the northern climes may predispose large segments of our community to bone disease. Researchers led by Dr. Doschak—with the Edmonton-arm of “Team Osteoarthritis Alberta”—have set their sights on interrupting the bone disease process and providing novel drug treatment options for common bone diseases and bone cancer. Join us for this informative and interactive discussion.
